Abstract
The article examines questions regarding the Dungan Islamic scholar and religious figure Sheikh Yusuf Ma Desin (1794–1874), a Chinese Hanafi-Maturidi scholar from Yunnan, known for his fluency and knowledge of both Arabic and Persian, as well as his deep knowledge of Islam. He used the Arabic name Abd al-Qayyum Rukh al-Din Yusuf, or "Mawlana al-Hajj Yusuf Ruh al-Din Ma Fujuh". When considering the issue, the author relied on the works of Chinese Islamic researchers such as Abdul Rahman Shen Hua Chang, as well as Soviet scholars V.P. Vasilyev and V.F. Poyarkov.
Scientific methods such as historical analysis, classification, and comparison were used. The purpose of the study is to reveal the personality of the outstanding scientist Sheikh Yusuf and also to list all his works. Conclusions are drawn that people need to know all Islamic figures and also revive the Islamic heritage among the Dungan people and beyond. Urgently pressing issues are identified, such as: the preservation of traditional Islam among the Dungans, support from government agencies in the organization of an Islamic educational center, and special strategies for the preservation of traditional Islam.
