Abstract

Elaborating on topics according to intellectual relevance and presenting arguments free from sensory intuitions allows the researcher to combine clear conceptualizations with precise arguments, based on the known meanings and expressions in the Arabic language. The focus here is on exploring meaning through the three processes of designation, usage, and interpretation, applying methods that balance approximation with definition, relying on logical approaches such as demarcation, definitions, and analogies.

In other words, «designation» refers to the linguistic reality that identifies the shared aspects across different meanings under broad categories derived from the general characteristics of roots. As for usage, in both its legal and technical senses, it directs the linguistic meanings towards intended interpretations based on customary discourse; it may narrow down, match, or imply meanings without departing from the linguistic foundation.

Interpretation, on the other hand, is concerned with uncovering the intended meaning through linguistic obligations and familiar uses in context.

Thus, the art of lexicography plays a role in clarifying meanings in legal or technical discourse, whether exhaustively or partially.
