Abstract
Ibn Jinni was considered the first to view the phonological study as an independent science, and that he was the first to use a linguistic term to denote this science, which we still use until now, which is phonology, and Ibn Jinni is exposed to what is now known as “the voice in speech”.
This is because sounds in words or in related speech do not retain the properties that are known to them when they are independent sounds, but rather acquire new properties.
But he wrote a large book to talk about voices in its two branches - the general and the functional - and he was the first to research an independent book. He was right when he said: “I did not know that one of our companions fought in this art this delicacy, nor was he satisfied with this satisfaction.
“Meaning that his book was not a collection of previous opinions and ideas, but was distinguished by serious additions, expressing his correct scientific view and its superior accuracy, "and it turns out that it is an important linguistic study that a linguist must take into account."
